Village of Florida Residents, we will continue transitioning our garbage and recycling bins this week. You will receive a notice in your mailbox along with 2 new 95 gallon receptacles at the end of your driveway. Green can will be for garbage collection and the blue can will be for recycling. When you receive them they will be what are used for garbage and recycling going forward in the Village of Florida.

With the recent storm we had on Monday, I’d like to remind everyone of the village ordinance in effect. There is no overnight parking on village streets through March 15. This is to allow our DPW to remove snow and not have obstacles to avoid while clearing our streets. Please help us keep the roads clear this winter by parking in your driveways and parking areas this winter.

With February on the way and the cold looks like it will stick around for a while, I would like to announce two events coming up here in the village. The first is the return of the “You bet your Ice hole” fishing tournament at Glenmere lake. On Saturday, February 5th (weather permitting) beginning at dawn come out for a day of fun and fishing. More information/rules can be found on the Florida Fire Deptartment Facebook page. The Florida Chamber of Commerce is hosting an ice skating event on February 12th from 1-4 PM. Located on Meadow road, next to the NYS police barracks this family friendly event will have hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows and lots of fun for all ages. More information can be found on the Florida Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. Let’s hope it stays frosty so we can all have some winter fun!
